Back for her second performance at The Hamilton Live, Mavis Staples is still a force to be reckoned with. Born in Chicago, she came to popularity with her family band, The Staple Singers. The group was signed to Stax Records in the sixties and aligned with Booker T. And the MGs as their backing band. She was proposed to by Bob Dylan and she and her family appeared in the 1971 concert film, The Last Waltz from The Band. She's sung with John Scofield, Ry Cooder, Ray Charles, Los Lobos and finally this past year, won her first Grammy award for her album, You Are Not Alone.
